How the Pip Calculator Works

The calculator multiplies the pip size (0.0001 for most pairs, 0.01 for JPY pairs) by your lot size, then converts to your account currency using approximate exchange rates. For pairs where the quote currency matches your account currency, the calculation is direct. Otherwise, a conversion step is applied.

Why Pip Value Matters

Different currency pairs have different pip values. A 50-pip stop loss on GBP/JPY costs a different amount than 50 pips on EUR/USD. Knowing the exact pip value ensures your risk calculations are accurate and your position sizes align with your risk management rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

A pip (percentage in point) is the smallest standard price movement in a currency pair. For most pairs it is 0.0001; for JPY pairs it is 0.01.

Pip value = pip size (0.0001 or 0.01) multiplied by lot size, then converted to your account currency using the exchange rate if needed. For a standard lot on EUR/USD, one pip equals $10.

Yes. Pip value depends on the quote currency and the exchange rate. When the quote currency is USD, it is fixed at $10 per standard lot. Otherwise it fluctuates with the exchange rate.

A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency. A mini lot is 10,000 units, and a micro lot is 1,000 units. Position size should be determined by your risk management rules, not by convenience.
